Yorkville, Illinois USA - Luceat presents the VIDA 300, the latest release of its award-winning Plastic Optical Fiber-based video transmission system. VIDA works with any analogue CCTV camera to transmit video signals over long distances (up to 300m). Suitable for CCTV, video surveillance, monitoring of industrial processes and vision systems, it couples the smallest cable size ever with EMI immunity, “According to Paul Mulligan, CEO of FiberFin.
In addition, Compared to common silica fibber, plastic optical fiber (POF) boasts many advantages given by its ease of installation, making it the best solution for CCTV and video transmission. POF transmits video and data at high speed preventing electronic eavesdropping; cables are much tougher and easier to manipulate and terminate than conventional silica fibers; while termination can actually be performed with no special tools in less than 30 seconds! Surprisingly enough, the total COO (Cost of Ownership) is much lower than existing optical alternatives.
POF has greater bandwidth and is more resilient than copper cables as well. Cat. 6 cables, which are currently standard for local area networks, begin to falter at high transmission speeds; they are fragile under harsh conditions (especially moisture, acid environments) and can break when used in industrial settings where they’re susceptible of being moved and stepped on.
Moreover, copper lines are vulnerable to electronic eavesdropping; while any copper cable is susceptible to electromagnetic interference which can impair signal transfer and compromise the functionality of the network. As the bandwidth requirement increases the cost differential between copper and plastic optical fiber is reduced, making POF more efficient than copper.
Paul also concludes ‘Design engineers now have all the pieces that they need to design POF links for systems applications from a single source", according to Mulligan.
