Coaxial RCA is the most popular digital Audio connection. Cable and connectors are 75 ohm impedance and used to connect DVD players, Compact Disk (CD) and some DAT recorders to multichannel surround sound (Dolby Digital, DTS, etc) equipment.
Toslink is a fiber optic version of the coaxial digital audio connection
and is used in the same applications as coax.
A fiber optic digital audio cable carries audio data in the form of light impulses instead of electrical signals. The Toslink connector is a square plug and is used with newer Dolby Digital surround sound receivers, digital versatile discs (DVDs), and compact disk (CD) players, satellite dish receivers, and other devices.
