The FiberFin was developed for Plastic connectors and fiber. Where is difficult to achieve a 2-4 micro finish on these and when you also add that most of the time you will use epoxy that has a crown or glob on the end of the connector which is a large mass for polishing paper to sand off. This is where the FiberFin technology of Diamond finishing really works as the FiberFin4 machines the surface to a mirror finish in less than 2 seconds no matter how much of epoxy is on the end.
We use these FiberFin4 machines in our factory to finish thousands of cables a week the majority of them are the Versalink line of connectors from agilent.
We use $.01 cents each as a figure of finishing cost as you can finish about 10,000 plastic connectors and still maintain a 4-5 micro finish.
Then the diamond can be refinished for $100.00 and it is good for the next 10,000 terminations and the life of the diamond is about 20 relapp, the cost of a replacement diamond is $695.00 |
